A VIEW INTO THE PAST
Sophie's Hawk: Spirit of the Raptor is set in Minnesota &
Dakota Territory in 1863-64. These dates are significant in
Minnesota & Dakota Territory history following the Sioux Conflict
in 1862.
The authors obtained this detailed map of Minnesota & Dakota
Territory in 1863 from the Minnesota Historical Society. On it,
you can locate many of the places mentioned in Sophie's Hawk,
including Devil's Lake (Mini Wakan Lake) in northern Dakota
Territory.
